Next instalment of the story of my boat re-fit.
First job was to fit the Jabsco Searchlight….. great toy and superb for picking out those pot-buoys at night !!!
Then the reserve VHF antenna and time to bundle the cables from several bits of kit on the roof; passed through a waterproof gland and then the challenge of making the cable routing as discrete as possible
I have been putting off sorting out the bilge pumps, but as the platform was installed (see my last report) I knew I had to get it finished. The 2-pack deck enamel had arrived in the post, so after painting the bilge well and platform I was ready to start the fitting
With pumps fitted; one on a Float-Switch (permanently wired) and the second on a switch from the dashboard
Pleased with the results of the pumps I then needed to fit the out fall pipes. I hate drilling holes in the boat and this needed two…so not happy
But at least the results look clean and tidy….and I now have electric bilge pumps…yippee
I had fitted the windlass to the bow, but wasn’t happy with the fit, so it came off and it was time to go back to Fluid Fabrications, in Gosport, to have a bespoke plate made. My idea was to mount the Windlass and Bow-Roller on a single plate, acting as a stiffening base and also a shield for the gell-coat deck from the anchor chain. The underside of the plate also has a fitted chain-funnel; again to protect the deck
The only problem with the plate is that it has a gap under the bow front. The options being to bend the plate when tightening the bolts ….or fit a sleeve underneath.
I have begun fabricating the sleeve/spacer. Constructed from three pieces of ply glassed together and then shaped to an exact fit. The final task of the day was to paint the finished spacer with gell-coat/resin mix. Not quite finished, so post the results up in the next report
