back in february (i think) i for some reason, thought it would be a good idea to completely strip down and re-build one of my favourite rods... my abu suveran XS. it wasnt in the best condition.
i thought how hard could it be!.... how naive of me!
thankfully Belinda took me under her wing and talked me through it. even lent me a rod turner to make life easier! so alot of credit goes to her because if it wern't for billiethebuilder, i'd still be looking at a bare blank!
throughout the build i ecountered problems. not being able to get hold of any varnish and using paint which wasnt right for the job was one of them. so i got the wet and dry out again and started from scratch. :bash: :bash:
i wanted to keep the original graphics on the rod but that was easier said than done.
i finally got it all sussed and plodded on with it. i learnt my lesson and didnt rush... hence why i have only just finished it ;D
in the end i chose a blue gloss paint with glow in the dark spray paint for the tip, which left a matt finish so i used a thin coat epoxy high-build to give it abit of gloss. i went with black with silver trimming for the whippings which i reckon looks quite good on the blue.
i also managed to get hold of a small union jack for the butt section so it wouldnt look so plain. thanks Crazyplums!
once i got the hang of the high build it turned out ok!
ok so it's not the best re build in the world but i think i've done a not bad job with it
anyhow. here's a few pics..
