own lures

Me and the boy are gonna start knocking out our own lures shortly, him for his pike fishing and me for the Bass, he's sorting out the spray equipment.

And i've managed to pick up this old lathe complete with tools on the island, took me a couple of days to strip it down and get it working properly, i reckon it could be quite interesting, from reading books and looking on the net, there's a lot more to making lures than meets the eye. cant wait to get going,

HI ,You might find that lathe works better if you put a couple of concrete blocks across the stretchers.It'll make it run smoother

Sure am Lighty, or thats the aim anyway, may have bitten off more than we can chew though, very skilled business lure making. yanks are into it big time.

Here's a couple of pics of our trial attempt at painting and weighting a couple of jerk bait lures before we do any proper as the top coat is too expensive to waste, so these will probably end up in the bin. still need an airbrush to get the puka looking details, missed a bargain brush and compressor on ebay last week

We are still waiting for the fish eyes, and the rings, hooks, diving vanes, and screw in rings we ordered from the Netherlands last week. the clear top coat is the only thing that can stand up to a bite from a pike apparantly bloody expensive stuff so it better do. A long way to go yet i think. I did wonder if the clear resin would be any good for rod finishing?
