Can't agree there m8, your fish cakes sound sublime and I might try your recipe, but Bass! nagh, definitely an over rated fish for eating (why do you think most of us put them back?) lol

They were seen as not much good for anything else!

well i see where you are coming from .and the weirdest thing is how bass cost so much ...and sole they are expensive as well ,personally i just feed the cat with sole and turbot and save the rockling for me and the other half ..why do bass cost so much i mean they are not rare or anything ,we catch tons of them to every rockling .My very favorite is a rockling and dragonet medley but i havent seen a dragonet for years ...now i could understand them being expensive due to being rare ,but bass should be ten for a quid ...Oh well maybe i will win the lottery and start rockling farming ...

I cook macky the same way as AdamG does but usually add a teeny bit of garlic. Some people might think I'm mad but Pout are nice(when they're big enough!) and Whiting is better than Cod in my opinion.

I like to fillet the mackerel.
I rub the flesh with english mustard, sprinkle with cayanne pepper, smoked paprika and a little chinese 5 spice.
Sounds an odd concoction but its gorgeous grilled or roasted for 5-7 minutes (hot oven or grill)
Enjoy :chef:
