Could someone explain what the point of all this expense is. All my gear has ordinary old ally oxide rings, with one exception; the fish don't have a clue what rings I have and I have experienced a busted ring in the last fifteen years. Harder rings improve line flow through them which equals Longer casting distances. Hard often means brittle but more expensive versions are normally made more durable Lighter rings affect the rods action and recovery less which gives a decent rod a more satisfactory feel. Light often means flimsy but again this is a problem that over come in better quality rings If these things are of no interest to you then stick with the cheaper ones but dont question other peoples choices!!!! Cheaper rings are often very delicate or have frames that are soft and bend around easily. Some cheaper rings are perfectly functional though Its the same as driving a Lada or a Ferrari. Both will get you from A to B but i know which one i would rather be driving

bazza has done 400 trips with BHNG!s on one of his feds and never replaced a ring.as for weight it does not count for beach fishing with 150g leads and bait.
