Are they all the same or have they been changed / altered through the years? Are they all mark 1's to date or is there a better one to go for. Thanks

All a bit personal really. I have one and quite like it, although I find the butt a bit short. Quality is good and I've not heard of any breakages. Had a 28.5 LB Blond on my 20/30 earlier this year in a roaring tide flow and it did not turn a hair. Rod looked like a hula hoop with a small piece cut out though

Earlier models are better quality blanks, they are the ones without the red/gold suveran decal. I have 2 originals still going strong after 7 years and lots of trips under their belts. One thing to watch is the single leg guides - they do move under the whipping a bit ....
I have heard of a lot of the newer ones break, mainly due to over stressing at the tip section.
New Suveran range is due out in January - Apparently with 4 weights in the range, instead of the 3 available now

Thanks for the reply Phish, thats some fish in a strong tide to its credentials.
I dont think that I worded my question very well, what I meant was - is there better years of manufacture? We all know how often items that are originally great end up having corners cut during later production and are only half the quality of the original product.
Thanks

I have 4 of the 30Lb class and 1x50Lb class. All bought from those shylocks Poindesters
Two of the 30s broke near the tip ... almost to the centimetre in the same spot.... both playing Conger. I broke one and mate broke the other on the next trip. We are both very experienced boat anglers and it was shocking that they failed.
Poindesters wouldn't entertain any return to ABU...saying that it was our fault :rasp: I regret not chasing it up with ABU.
Since found out they are prone to failure in the same spot. They are a loverly thin profile and I seriously liked them... but don't trust them with big fish.
The surviving two I have had the rings replaced with Fuji (greens) as the originals were all spinning out of position. Jack (Castfromthepast) recommended the Fujis as they had twin feet and since then the rods have been even better.
The 50 class had a Fuji-loc seat... they might be okay for beach rods, but on a big boat rood the damn thing was constantly moving on the stock during a fight. So I had it replaced by jack with a proper reel seat.
I would personally avoid them unless they are 2nd hand and cheap. At over £120 a piece I would wait and put the money into the new Zziplex boat rods coming out in the new year. One thing you can guarantee is that Zzippys don't break !!!
I understand that Rovers in Fareham have been succesful in returning them to ABU on behalf of their customers... but that just goes to show what Customer Service is meant to be about.
On a positive note..... Suveran Pro-Boats they sit straight in the rod-rest, not sloppily half bent over and show bites like no other boat rod I own or have seen. If only they didn't break !

I bought a 20/30 Suveran along with two mate some years ago (2003 I think?) they were the 1st Suverans that our local tackle shop got sent but we've got the red & gold detail on ours. I thought the quality must have been dropped on the more recent rods as the original rood had such good reviews. I've heard alot of moans over the recent ones, my older one has been faultless.

the new suveran boat rods are out as i have stock of a couple, although the first batch was small so may have to weight a while in some places. there is 4 classes instead of three, the rods are now longer and do have a longer grip above the reel: 12lb - 8'6" 20lb - 8'2" 30lb - 8' 50lb - 7'9" They retail at £169.99 as its newer and the older rods had gone up early this year due to the exchange rates!! As for breakages i have only ever seen two and i think they were due to slight rough handling and i have only seen one broken tip eye and one loose whipping!! hope this helps

The suverans have turned to muck 100% Seen two brand new ones, snap, same place, within a couple of weeks of each other.. one on a blonde one on a smut..... would not touch another new suveran or a renamed (probably worse) piece of toss..... As usual these companies mess around with a proven quality product trying to save a few £££ and nearly always the product suffers.. Cant wait for the new range

It isn't shared by ABU Mine weren't rough handled... they broke due to a flaw in either the design or fabrication. Its very easy for a tackle dealer to blame the user when a rod fails... It was the first rod I had break on me in over 30 years of boat, shore and freshwater fishing. Admittedly since then I've had a mackerel rod broken by a Tope in the rod rest; and I stood on a freshwater feeder rod... oh and whilst pushing the dinghy in the back garden I broke the tip off a Mullet rod ... but other than those :ahhh: I reckon a rod has a job to do... catching fish in harsh boat marine environment... it should be designed to meet that challenge...especially at that price. Mine were virtually brand new and broke whilst bring up fish..... drag set and they parted in the same spot I like the BMW response at the moment - to their alloy wheels collapsing all over the place... they blame the drivers for going through pot holes. What the hell did they expect the car to encounter on the road !!!!! I haven't heard of any probelems with the 20Lb class or 50 Lb class... so its just one model. It is no coincidence that many of the 30Lb Class Suverans have broken in the same place.... which ABU are not disputing (unlike BMW) !!! Lets hope that the new blanks are better than the recent ones.

No probs Garry. Yeah... Jack (Castefromthepast) put big tip rings on them and I have them as standby 50Lb class stumpies ;D I haven't used them and probably never will as there is limited action left in the rod. Looking at a couple of the new Zziplex boat blanks when they come out... expecting them to be the *dogs cahooners*
