Avet SX mag conversion..

Anybody attempted their own conversion on these reels?
If so how did it go...?
What magnets did you use and where did you get them from..

My problem is sourcing the magnet?
Got 3 abu micro ones, that worked when I did a test run with blue tac ;D but I would prefer one bigger magnet if anyones got any ideas where I could locate one??

Plenty of old Penn 525 Mags around that could actually justify their existence by being smashed up and have the magnets ripped out... just a thought

or got some ultra mag magnets but these arent as strong as the small mag elite jobs....

look at the my cast fishing thread, shows an easily fitted adjustable system that i think blackdog sell ...........

No one at Penn specifically Drew, even though they have churned out a whole load of shite before

It's more the people who have only been fishing 5 minutes, think they know it all and have only ever used a Penn 525 Multiplier and think that it's the best thing ever

Sounds a bit like the old sea screach!

A lot of very good anglers swear by the penn 525. I personally cant get on with them, but each to their own.

Back to the original post though, surely for uptiding where you are just needing a bit of a lob, just a couple of drops of nice thick oil in the bearings would do as good of a job as magging it up would?

I don't uptide with a bit of a lob ;D I like my baits as far away from the boat as possible...
I have already put tg's liquid grease in bearings and its still very fast!
Add a double squid, whole cuttle, and a bit of a wind with a full on smack and its all over rover! I would say this reel must be magged if fishing big baits with more than just a lob...

If you can spec out the size of the magnets it may be possible to source some on t' interweb.

Fair enough mate. Just google rare earth magnet and you will find what you need, you will be supprised who sells them, and for a lot less than you owuld pay for a propper "fishing reel" magnet!

to convert the sizes to mm type something like:

"1/4 inch in mm" into Google.
