after a LOT of lure fishing for bass this summer, my tatty old spinning reel has seen better days. im looking at investing in an abu garcia revo. the fixed spool spinning reel looks like a n awesome reel worth investing in but i like the look of the bait-caster reels. the question is are these as capable of flicking a lure as far as the spinning reel would be? also which revo is the best to go for, there seems to be so many in the range, at all sorts of prices..
cheers, aaron.

+1 for the fixed spool reels, especially on lighter lures / soft plastics as Drew indicated.
Do a proper job and get yourself a Shimano Rarenium CI4, it's the closest thing to an "industry standard" in the world of lure fishing. Not looked back since I got mine, makes all these carp reels, etc. feel Victorian!

I agree, it has to be a FS Reel for spinning because 1. They are happy to take braid if you ever want to 2. They have more flexibility and 3. they have a much faster retrieve rate which is what you want with a spinning reel. Not sure about that Shimano, very pricey when you consider that there are plenty of good reels around for less than half that price. Why not try a Daiwa Opus which I have found to be very reliable and can double up for bait fishing when you want.

guys. very helpful replies there, i think i will go with the fixed spool option, i have noticed that the shimano's are incredible reels, my boss uses the shimano stella but that's a tad out of my price range...ill take a look at the other shimano that stevieboy suggested and also the daiwa opus. cheers chaps
