I know I been slagging that guy from River Monsters off,, but I have been brought up on the finest angler/fisherman ever to grace the cathode tube..
The man was a legend.
Never went fishing and caught nothing.
Was a master of Course and Sea fishing
Brilliant fly fisherman
The late
The great
The one and only
Jack Hargreaves
And before any of you say a word against Jack, I will tell you something.
He once went mackerel fishing in one 'Out of Town ' episode.
He was so good, that the string of mackerel he caught for the camera was all ready gutted as they came on board!
Now only a fishing genius could catch gutted fish and save messing the boat up.
(My mate Pat spotted it at the time)
Pure brillance.

Ollie Kite..
'Kites Country.'
Now there's a name I ain't heard in ages.
They fishing presenters were SO much better back then.
Baiting hooks was nearly cheating, let alone using treble hooks.
Makes you wonder what their secret was??
Still we will never know as they are all gone, but never forgotten!!
Was it Ollie who's catch phrase was 'Cheerio' at the end of each program??

Larfing John Wilson takes some beating. He has been known to take a fish from another nearby angler "for the show" and present it to the camera as his own catch. Hugh F-W knew nothing before he started his show and pinched many of his "ideas" from others. The only bloke who is probably pretty honest and I personally like his style, is Henry Gilbey but we don't see him enough these days unfortunately.

had the pleasure!!! of meeting Jack Hargreaves once after fishing in the final of the southern television angling competition a long time ago,
he turned up at the weigh in, hardly spoke to anyone, done some filming presenting the trophies then disappeared, and i agree didnt have a bloody clue about sea fishing!!!
changing track, years ago i was fortunate to share a trip with angling times guys out from Mevigesy in Cornwall wreck fishing, one of the guys, who wrote for them, joined us, with badges all over the front of his fishing smock and hat and expensive gear my first thoughts were "i might learn something here"
i did""" it was how not to be a prat"""" he knew it all""" had done it all,and was a right pain in the arse,
aboard with us was one of the guys from the worzuls),(who sadly passed away a few years ago,) his sense of humour was on parr with Jethro, he gently tore into mr ego all day long, by the end of the day his chin was on the floor!!!! and my face ached through laughing so much,
i learnt a lot that day, that the power of words combined with humour can deflate the biggest of ego"s.
tight lines guys regards trigger.

And for 1,000 points...
In 'The fishing Race,' one of the two school teachers (who I think won it, but may be wrong) reckoned he caught a British Record fish.
What type of fish was it, and where did he catch it??
That will test yer!!!

I really enjoyed watching the series a passion for angling with the two beardy blokes. One used old cane rods and a museum piece reel and the other used modern gear, narrated by Bernard Cribbins. They were best mates and traded some great banter (in an old english gentleman kind of manner). No big egos, beautiful locations and they caught some great fish.

I think Alan Yates was one of them and they caught everything from gudgeon to carp all with equal enthusiasm. My favourite was when they were stalking carp by climbing trees and one of them hooked a good carp and simply jumped into the lake out of the tree!
