Tips on boat fishing? Hi all, me and my dad resently brought a boat in Hastings but did not get the chance to take it out why it was there we have now moved it to Chichester harbour as its closer to home and we also have a caravan at west wittering, basically we have both been boat fishing there a few times but on some one else's boat what we paid to go out in and it's only for something like 2-3 hours so don't get to much time out fishing, plus there has always seemed to be a few idiots on the boat as well. The boat we have brought is called a 17ft pilot with a 70hp marina, we are hoping to be catching a few Mackreel (mainly for bait) bass, smooth hound and dog fish. We have gps, fish finder and a bunch of other gagits so hoping they will help us out but obviously experience is the key to all good fishing. Does and one have any tips/tricks to help us with the boat as well as catching the fish I listed? Thanks

1. Get an Admiralty chart for the area you intend to fish, I know they are not cheap but they do show the location of wrecks and other interesting features which may hold fish. 2. Probably better to use braid rather than mono line = better bite detection. 3. If you ever decide to change the engine, get a four stroke. They are much quieter and less likely to spook fish. 4. Tides are really important, I have seen fishing virtually stop dead in the past when the tide current halted.
