Right, I have finally decided to take the plunge and get a boat. About 17 foot, capable of getting out to the Nab in a decent amount of time. Been looking at a Shetland 536 or Alaska 500. Looking to spend 4-6K. Any recommendations Jeff.

Seahogs are great first timer boats and for your budget you should get a very nice one. They do make a 17ft version if you can find one. Other things you need to consider is how many are you going to take out? This will set your size. Are you going to tow or moor? Many people have their favorate boats but do keep some of your budget back for safety kit, insurrance and electronics. If you want to view the thoughts of peoples boats have a look on my web site, it might help you. See signature for link. Good luck on your quest. Dave

I have an Orkney strikeliner and would not swap it if I won the lottery tonight, I launch nearly every day by myself, its a great fishing platform, she does not slap at anchor. Although I am very careful about the weather when I have been caught she feels safe.
Its my first boat so maybe its just young love?
