I took the plunge and decided to purchase the new 7HT Mag. used it a couple of times, very impressed, the magnetic control during the cast certainly seems different to the Penn's and abu's I have used. The mag breaks seem to start later on in the cast and slowly build up, excellent backlash control. Runs as smooth as the original 7HT, perfect sized reel for my small hands. Would recommend one if you like the original 7HT's and are in the market, if you need something for rougher ground would look at the Penn though

Hi Craz-e, how's it going with the 7HT Mag? Are you still happy with it? Also how do you think it will be for maintenance? ------Clive

Very happy with the 7HT mag, very user friendly reel, maintenence shouldn't really be an issue just give it a clean after you have used it and give it a drop of oil every now and again.

After twenty years of only fishing from boats I recently had the urge to have a bash off the beach again and bought a couple of Abu mag elites. I always used to use HTs and thought they were great, now having read your reports, I wish I considered the new ones. Hey Ho

Nothing wrong with the mag elites though, both very very good reels, just down to personal preference really

Used my new one today for the first time and can't speak highly enough of it!! The magnetic control is light years ahead of the Abu or Penn systems!! If possible I'd like this reel to have my chilldren!!!

I'm not being facetious, but the mags on my Abus and Penns seem pretty good (ie on max and the spool is heavily brakes, on min it spins too fast) so how is it much different?

The Mag elite slider is not very well made and the magnets fall out !!( I know of a number of reels mine included that this has happened on!)And the Penn mag setup is not dis-similar. The Magnetic brake on the &HT mag is a self contained unit and the magnets move by centrifugal force and onl cut in when needed!(When the spool reaches 30,00RPM) I still have a penn 525 and a mag Elite and have to say that they will be getting replaced by more 7HT mags!! The engineering on the Daiwa is also much better than the Abu's since they started making them in the Far east! I think that anyone who tries one will be very impressed! By the way when I said I wanted the reel to have my children i was speaking metaphorically!!!
