Another idea I have pondered over was the use of pva stockingnet - I believe the freshwater lads use it. Make a mess of a single or a few hardbacks, knot the bottom end of a pva sleeve, pile the smashed crabs in knot the other end & form a sausage, then only a few turns of elastic would be needed to secure to hook & snood. Maybe you could even make them up &/or pre-freeze them at home, then just whip them on at the beach. Once cast the pva disolves to slowly release all the juice & scent ....Lovely! Another good one ! Sounds ideal for smoothounds in the spring too - would take a bit of the casting effort needed to reach them, and deliver a good flow of juice and scent ....

I considered the pva bag to form up a big juicy limpet sausage! Also, cracking idea with the pipe freeze

Stay clear of the pva lads IMO- its murder!!!! one drop of water and thats face it crabs ,limpet worm and most other baits are full of it and a hole appears. Tried to use it once, never again. Fine if your using oil-based pellets ,which is what they are designed for. Willow I have frozen big limpet baits on snoods before 4"by1" and poured the juice from shelling into the tray as well. This gives a good scent trail and a bit of protection on the cast too. I ve taken 20 frozen with me and used a genie clip to just swap snoods for a frozen one like double-patting. Freeze spray sounds easier.

Surely the juices from the crab would cause the pva netting to melt if you pre made them? A domestic freezer would possibly be too slow to freeze them - unless of course you have access to a blast freezer.
