i dont particularly need to use a 6 oz lead but read sole hunters earlier post and wondered if it could handle a 6 oz lead bcause after i snapped my rod i haven't been putting all my effort in to my casts fearing i will break another rod. i usually use a 4/5oz at most it's reasuring to know it didn't break with a 6oz. im not sure but you may need to use a 6oz lead off gilkicker point on a srong tide not sure i'd be able to catch one thou. could any one suggest a good reel to acompany the grx-s i've bought the multiplier version. was thinking maybe a daiwa 7ht turbo or a penn 525 mag Just been having a bit of casting practice at the bay with a 130grm (nearly 5oz) and have been trying different styles in a bid to get a few extra yards. The rod handles great lewis, there really is no chance of you snapping it. The grays has a lifetime warranty anyway I have been trying off the ground style where you have the reel (fixed spool)under the rod like a multiplier and you hold the line with your thumb. Takes a bit of getting used too but when i hit it right it flew . I have heard excellent reviews of the ht, i would get one of them if i used the old multies

I own both the 7ht turbo and 525 mag and for user friendlyness i would choose the 525, it also will handle any condition especially rough ground where the 6.1:1 retrieve comes in handy.

yea i heard that the grey's had a lifetime warranty ;D ( one of the reasons i picked one up) i normally use a toned down version of the pendulm cast but am going out tomorrow morning to have a few casts with the grx to see if i can improve on my normal cast and maybe try the OTG cast. went to hansfords in fareham (tackle shop) to pick up my grey's and he suggested a HT aswell aslo richardB has suggested a abu mag elite so need to have a look at that. would be good if i could go to tackle shop and test drive both reels before i buy.

i didnt end up getting the greys rod i bought a century crest 14 ft and a penn 525 supermag extra.at first i found the rod a lot more pokey than my 25oo zziplexs from way back . but that was before i remembered how to cast.its coming together very nicely now and i am very impressed with the mag breaking system.I HAD A 6500 GR ABU in the past and didnt like the mag breaking at all so had it converted back to centrefugal..but this penn reel is very different.
