Hi All, Have just acquired a couple of bass blanks and am wondering if I should attempt to build them myself. Having never done so before would like to have a go, but at the risk of creating a mess and wasting valuable time I'm wondering if its wise to even try. Anyone any experience/advice they wish to pass on or good advice resources on how to do it ?? Or where to start even !! It's not going to take much to persuade me leave the job to the professionals, so any recommendations on where to go would be most welcome. I'm in the Fareham (Hants) area and would rather not have to post them to keep the costs down. Thanks in advance Des

Interesting post Annie. I believe in the old adage "What one fool can learn, so can another.", and basically will have a go at almost anything because that is what my father taught me. I can certainly recall some of his attempts - he made a split cane rod which lasted a number of years (that was in the days before fibre glass or carbon fibre). He also made a guitar with a superb sound and that is supposed to be one of the most skilled jobs anywhere in the world. My guess is that if you use good quality materials and they are probably only 25% of the cost of a rod in the shops, you can do it. After all, the rod makers/repairers in this country had to start somewhere don't you think. If you have a go, I would love to know how you get on.
