Heres a few pics of the rest of the family mostly converted by myself ;D

Am I missing the point here.............you can fit my multi knowledge on the back of a stamp.......hehehe please explain why there so good Rich,,,,,,,,,,,,,, or wot do they do that a standard shop brought jobby wont..?? lovely looking set of kit none the less. Hi Gazza Sorry bout the pics, crappy camera phone Basically the spool design of the 6600 wide black max has proved to be awesome for 150,175 and 200 gram leads, this is due mainly to the dimensions of the spool and the way it dispributes the line during the cast. The spool is wider than a 6500 but shallower than a 6500 which basically means the spool doesnt empty as quick so the spool spin speed doesnt alter so much. basically as the line goes down on the spool the spool accelerates more requiring more adjustment on the breaking so a 5000 size reel accelarates very quickly but is ok as it is very light whereas the 6600 wide line level drops very slowly compared so is easier to setup. Also the ultra cast design of the Abu reels is top notch i.e. bearings in the spool/ bearings run on a stantionary spindle. The mag conversions allow the reels to run from about 8 seconds completely on to upto 3 mins off although some guys have had upto 6 mins ABEC 5 Hybrid bearings are very good as you can run them dry removing the variables that the temp/humidity can have on oil viscosity. The cages are designed for a better hand grip on the reel and also help reduce backlash which is caused by the loose line during the cast hitting the cage bars on say' a 6500 which inturn causes the reel to birdsnest. The uprated c clip is to stop the brake block holder from popping off during the cast which as Daz found out today can make a nice mess of your spool Basically a shop brought reel will do a excellent job but when your in the quest for those few extra meters then these little points can make a difference. The Abu black max range is a very old reel but the spool design on the 5600, 6600 and 6600 wide is suited perfectly to casting. All the world records are held using a converted 6600 wide ;D

Excellent answer Rich to be fair was wasted on me but for the benefit of knowledgeable "casters" amoung us was probably everything they,d need to read mate. I often wonder if all the preparation that you do to make the reels user friendly on the casting circuit cant be applied for plain old fishing purposes ...or are the reels then to "sensitive" for winching fish/weed...etc. I read about plenty of conversions for your "purpose" and seems a natural step forward for manufacturers to copy you guys ideas and sell a model that can satisfy your casting distance needs so that everybody is using the same so its decided on casting ability rather than "tweaking " of equipment. although I bow to your engineering skill.!!!!!! Adam, i use a Century TTR and a ZZiplex ZTI at the moment, hoping to aquire a zziplex hst soon though as what Daz uses. Dale, think you might recognise that end plate yes mate Gazza, the reels could be used for fishing but they would probably be more tempremental than its worth, to make them useable you may as well stick to a normal abu 6500 as all the delicate little important tweaks will have to be done away with. Casters are very secretive about there reels, mostly the setup of them i.e. oils, balancing, start speeds and bearings. And to be honest its all part of the sport, the same as fishing with everyone using different rigs, baits etc. It takes alot of time and effort to get a reel to run 100% the same as it takes alot of time and effort to know where to fish on what tides with what bait to win a comp. The more you put in the more you get out. ;D

Rich, As I'm someone with no knowledge of what you are really talking about, I must say it was fascinating read, I just never knew that there was so much involved, how on earth did you pick up all that sort of info!
Amazing

Alot of the info Dave was picked up in places like these mate.
There is a forum myfishcasting.com that is full of technical info and ive spent many a night trawling through it all and i find it very fascinating.
