I must admit eddy , these ptt range kick the s**t out of any of these modern rods now IMHO ..... lee. the early version's yes,but penn moved production at one point, and the viper was produced with a painted tip,i found this one abosolute shite,it was shorter, the tip snapped, the overall finish was crap.....the chinese are great at making things, even better at making things badly ;D

indeed! i belive these first models arnt too common? dont think i will get rid of it any time soon the first models came with the original '525 slidy'complete with blackbeards mug on the rod,a slight change was made in that loveable mug being removed, then the 2nd generation ppt came along, painted tip,525 supermag, the early supermags(i think) had gold handles because they did'nt have the graphics at the time to make identifying the 2 different models, not too sure if the viper had neils face on it,the sidewinder i sold lee did,and the butt was yellow....has yours got the bearded one's face on it coddo?

nope... just his name "Neil Mackellow's VIPER ultimate match rod" so you reckon these rods are ones to hold on to? i'm not entirely sure if his face was on all the rods, but yes,we have the early ones(if your's has'nt got a painted tip, then it's the 525 slidy combo)the later vipers had a yellow-ish paint, the sort that glows under ultra violet light.....the later combo i got was shite, the reel was okay but the rod was crap in terms of build quality, have a look on wsf, there were plenty threads about broken penn rods from the later ppt range, just before the affinity range were released,my sidewinder f/s is one of the earlier one's but without the face.
