Just to put the record straight ..... 'Blueys' were recently (re-)introduced with a bit of a splash by three well known sea anglers promoting the products of Baitbox wholesalers. They are, according to the importers: Saury – Pacific Saury (Cololabis Saira) New 'allround-bait'. Caught in the Pacific Ocean(Jap/Kor). Imported by Domstein in 10kg crts. Size: 100-150gr. They are then re-packaged in threes and sold as pike/sea baits. Prices are around £3-50 per pack. The controversial ad campaign contained phrases like 'Bag up with "Blueys" and "the NEW Wonderbait", "outfished fresh lugworms and caught an amazing variety of fish". It appears they worked very well for Icelandic Longline fishermen. Results in the South of the UK have not borne out the original claims. They are certainly no 'Wonderbait', being a fish looking rather like a garfish, and attracts species like any other frozen fish bait. I'm afraid my only use for them was cut into strips for mackerel and gar bait. Claims that they will allow you to 'bag up' in matches and catch cod in UK waters should be treated with caution! For the average angler, you might be better advised to get half a pound of rag or a score of lug for the same outlay as three Saurys! 'Monkeynuts' (above) might well have got it 'spot on'!

I bought some but was unable to give it a fair trial because gettin it to stay on the hook was like trying to nail jelly to a tree.

Phish, it's probably the quality of the product that you've got there....
The best quality frozen items are IQF, ie Individually Quick Frozen, and these can be individually repacked while they are still frozen...
Those you got may not have been of IQF standard, or have been thawed out before repacking, or during transport.... and refrozen....
If it's bad quality, blame the suppliers.....
