Hello all,
My mate and I are looking to make the crossing and fish Chale weekend after next. So I'm after a little help and information. what is the access like to the beach? Is it a long walk and scramble down cliff paths? We are on the hunt for a ray or two so any tips on where abouts on the beach would be great if you don't mind. What size leads would be needed for holding bottom and do I need to use big baits ie Macky fillets or smaller bait?
Cheers
Steve

Access to the beach can be fairly hairy. If it has been raining it can be downright dangerous. As long as it's not too wet you should be fine, stacks of anglers make it up and down every week. My 5 year old nipper made it down ok in summer. There's stairs for the first half of the descent, then a scramble down a muddy slope for the last 10 or so metres.
The normal place to fish is either the Waterfall or the Caves. When you get down on the beach, head left about 1/2 a mile, until you hear/see the little waterfall coming down the cliff. Alternately head right at the bottom for about the same distance to get to the Caves. Big conger have been caught from the Caves too.
I lost a fair amount of gear down there last time I fished, so take a few leads. Try a pulley rig loaded with a sandeel in a squid wrap.
Good luck,
Steve.

Cheers Steve,
What is the tide pull like, will 6oz be enough to hold bottom? Also does high tide come in as far as the cliffs or is it safe to fish over high tide.
Cheers

the best place is left into nearly blackgang bay which is about a 45 min stomp on shingle, for here you need 6oz grippers, sandeel/squid, sandeel/mac wraps,, penneled on 3/0 pulley or fixed clip down, you want one blasted right out and play around at all distances on a second rod they can be under your feet or 150yrds out. Try and fish high tide down to low tide, day or night, the early rays dont seem bothered down here by daylight, good luck

Cheers Steve 6oz will hold, if it doesn't its too rough, stay well away from the base of the cliff at all times especially now with the rain as bits are dropping off all the time. as long as you take care its as safe as it can be. Drop me a pm before you come and I can tell you if its fishing and at what end of the bay.

or the alternative steve..... take 1 squid body..set aside mix....Bread crumbs/chopped parsley/chopped raw prawns bits of white crab meat/Hot Harissa sauce/minced garlic/salt and pepper..........stuff squid bodies x8
flash fry in olive oil ...3 mins.......and serve with salad...BURP
ive read 1 article steve where you wrap a whole sandeel with a squid body and tie on a pennell rig......
