Looking at coming down south one weekend soon, and wish to bring my dog along.
Now I know some beaches have only "Summer Bans", but some have all year round bans.
What beaches can I safely bring my mutt and rod?
(yes I am one of the conciencious owners and pick up his sh*t too)

Rich, I think most local beaches to me have areas which are banned to dogs (or they must be kept on the lead) from May to September, but Selsey Bill, Bognor, Southsea and Gosport all have sections of dog friendly beaches all year round. I have two dogs myself and rarely have a problem - most places I fish, I could have my dogs with me if I wished. Popular areas in the Summer like Stokes Bay (Gosport) might be a problem in the day time, but as the place is thronged with reddening trippers, swimmers, sailing dingies etc, etc. attempting to fish would not be the best idea any way ! If you decide to come down my way at all PM me and I'll help if I can.

Its a pity they all dont pick up the sh!t too. Our beach looks like a sewer sometimes, that and a rubbish tip. Theres 1 thing you can always be sure of round these parts, the poop bins are never full!

I know as a dog owner (two rotties) and an angler, that the beaches here in Dorset are usually very clean and mess free, there are always bins for the dog mess and usually its strictly enforced, Sandbanks is a lovely beach and allows dogs all year round, some beaches just have set aside areas where the dogs can be walked. I always carry a pocket full of carrier bags (Big dogs-Big poops..)Same as our fishing gear and empty bait pkts really, pick up after yourself and everyone is happy.

Couldn't agree more Mican60, a responsible dog owner with a dog under control is no problem to anyone. Unfortunately that's not very often the case. The number of "dogs eggs" that get left on the footpaths some of the IOW beaches is appalling. I nearly had to turn around at Chilton Cine once, the rancid stench of the footpath made my stomach turn. I also get alot of dogs running straight over to my bait box and trying to eat the contents. One of them had a 3/O pennel in it (double patting) and was very lucky not to be hooked.

Love dogs, although not got one at present; as has been said its the owners that are the problem. Had good laugh last year: Little doggie comes along and half inches a squid while me back was turned. Female (not lady) owner reckoned it was me own fault for not keeping an eye out. Female and dog go back to car, little doggie waits 'til he is safely in the car then hoiks it up (LOL) and gets chucked out of car by female. (lmfao)

We get the same trouble here but from fox`s. You can hear them stalking around in the bushes waiting...... One had our whole bag of sandeels up the cliff a few years back!
