Having spoken to my neighbour at Chesil, who was happily whizzzin out his gear a good 130yds using a Daiwa 7HT. It seems im leaning toward this model, although i didnt get to try it,the guy said how user friendly they are. However he having had 2 of em for 12 yrs, mentioned he was gonna "Up grade"to the Turbo model due to better spooling=equalling longer casts. Now ive seen the 7HT for about £65.00 which seems a fair price for a new one.........trouble is he now has me thinking should i save up me pennies for the Turbo version.... which is about £115.....looks real classy....but is it all shine..?? Any thoughts. Gaz

Hi Skatenchips, I would stick to the 7HT, if you haven't ever used a multiplier before, then like he said they are so user friendly, as I'v said before on this forum, I'v been using the 7HT for more year than I'd like to remember, I'm not thinking of up grading to the turbo. Tight lines M.I.B

Hi Gaz there are quite a few videos out know on casting which you can look up on e-bay also what is wrong with the abu 6500 Mag Elite it as got all one could wish for? It is light, holds plenty of 15lb running line and does not over run.

my abu 6500 has fell apart already only 2 years fishing, and i wash it occasionally didnt want to be the first to start, but now you have............ they are garbage, the drags are total shiyte if you plan on landing big fish regularly, they hate salt water and to top it all after sales have gone from the best to the bottom rather quickly with there couldnt give a toss attitude on spares........ BUT the mag elite does cast for miles with all of the above probs! interestingly the older green mags last better than the newer ones even though they are the same For the same money or less you can grab a far better reel that if you set right will have 99% of the castability of a abu mag elite.

I should copy and paste that statement of yours and mail it to Abu head quarters.....they would be well impressed that their customers are slagging off their products so readily. I understand there well engineered.....just put together in a shoddy manner.....unlike the swedes...!!!! Just out of interst while i wos sniffin around for info on multi,s the name "Shimano" hadnt cropped up..... I contacted my local shop who is a "Shim" main dealer.. geeeeeeez..........he quoted me summit like £400 for a beach multi.....dunno the number mind.....im in shock no wonder they dont get a mention on the forums. Gaz Its all about profit not about if the customers happy which it used to be.............. They know its rubbish gear thats why they have knocked two thirds off the real crap, i.e the lever drags and anything gold. One on the counter at my local tackle shop now. WAS £179 now £79 how many more will buy these useless corroding messes? Plenty! Cause they do seem a bargain and they DID have a good name.... makes me wonder if they have sold some abu stickers and badges to some sweat shop in Asia............ ;D If you do get one 6500 series is supposed to be ok but I still hear stories of hit n miss on corrosion, who wants a reel that you must polish after each trip......

mine arnt new ones and seem pretty maintenance free just aquick rinse after each trip and strip down every couple of months, the ony thing i can fault them on is the retreive could be faster although you can buy a gearset now,and they have two brand new models now and one of them already has the 6:3:1 gear ratio
