Hi Ive just done a service on my outboard, all the normal bits and one of the things i found lacking was the water flow so i changed the water pump and impeller. The water flow was ok but not like it used to be, so i got to thinking? every now and again i have to rinse our shower head (in the bathroom) with calgon, so i took the leg back off the engine turned it upside down drop some calgon in poured some boiling water on top and my god did it fizz, then out it all back together then put some fresh water in my test tank with the rest of the packet of calgon and let it run for a bit and the result was unreal the jet that came out when i put my finger in the jet stream it now puts a dent in my skin. I took the thermostat out to check it now it looks like brand new.Tony

With Salt X you can get a dispenser that fits on the hose between the muffs and hose which dispenses the correct amount of SaltX as the engine is being flushed. cost at £35 last time I asked. Dave

i was told of a chap that had a large lump 150 or 200 and he gave that a good flush once a year with calgon recond it worked a treat. ive flushed in a barrel with a strong mix of salt ex and it did seem to make a differance and seems to leave a coating on the motor.
