scott have you set up your sounder properly? even if you spend out on a colour sounder you will only get a colour screen so not much difference than the one you already got. to actually see fish echos you will need to set up your present sounder correctly, you will also only see echos from fish that have swim bladders.

i dont know if it is set up properly as i didnt get a manual for it what do you think of the garmin 555s? Dont really see what wrong with 140??? cant you down load a user guide? I have the garmin 90 and it does me.... It gives a good picture of the bottom and has a duel beam for the shallower stuff.... Doesn't matter how good your finder is if you dont know how to use it....

if you are mainly fishing the hamble try going out with your sounder and have a play around with the different settings. mainly sensitivity and gain, then see the difference on the screen. especially if you are going over the same bit of ground. i had a lowrance x87 for years that would show your line/end tackle in 200ft of water, but only after i used it enough to get to know what all the settings were for. mainly sensitivity and gain
