With the weather being how it is I was dreading the thought that I wouldn't be able to launch this weekend.Had planned to go up to the Essex coast to bag up with Cod but the weather put paid to that ::)By Friday night they were forecasting the wind to drop overnight on Saturday and on Saturday after doing a little bit of rigging (in a hailstorm!!!)I readied all my kit and prepared myself for a Needles night trip.
Drove down to Keyhaven to take the last of the ebb.It was flat calm when I arrived and when I phoned to register my trip the coastguard confirmed that it would be calm overnight----but bloody cold.
Launched about 1130 and quickly ran aground twice ::)before I was able to find the right track on the gps to the outlet ;D
It took me longer than usual to get out from Keyhaven and I was getting worried that the tide would turn making the trip impossible. The ebb wasn't giving too much help at this stage.
I was well pleased after sprinting most of the way to be able to cross through the Needles and out to the fishing grounds.
Stuck closer inshore than I normally do
took a pic of the Needles from the mark ;D
Settled down to fish and soon had the first fish to the yak
after a while had a hefty bite on one rod and struck into something that was giving a bit more fight than the doggies, couldn't believe it when I saw what was on the other end
eat your heart out Starvin!!!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D
Stayed out there for only a few hours till the cold was making it impossible to continue.
I had a lot more help from the tide on the way back but was tired when I got back around Hurst. For once it was a fairly calm crossing---even the trap was quite calm.
Didn't get the Cod that I would have liked but had a lovely tranquil night on the water and didn't see another soul.I was glad that I made the effort
