how many peeler crabs would I need to buy for a good nights fishing, and what sort of rig would I need to use for catching smuts???

if the smutts show up then 20 odd decent crab will get mullered ,if they dont half a dozen will last you a session .
all depends on the activity , if your short on crab big ragworm baits will still catch u smutts as will hermits ,softies and even hardbacks.
as ther are some big smutts around i would use 4/0 pennels with 50lb hook lengths ,heavy but the smutts dont care.
at the mo you could tie a crab on a lump of rope and the smutts would take it ;D
