hi peeps as some of you know i own the british bass record. iv just had a email from Mr.Oliver Crimmen Senior Fish Curator Department of Zoology The Natural History Museum hes sent me a few pics of my bass. i no some of you wont like it but its only fair ppl who want to see it can see it. and im not in the mood for any silly comment like iv had in the past. heres a copy of the email iv just gotten Dear Steve I don't know what happened to your message. I only just now found it. Sorry for the delay in replying. Your fish is one of the main attractions on Tank Room tours which is why I was quite sorry to have just missed one of the tours when I went there to take a photo for you. It would have been nice to show people looking at it. Anyway the reaction is usually a sort of disbelief-if-it-wasn't-actually-here-in-front-of-me. I've taken three shots for you. One of the Tank Room, where our large and special specimens (including the bass) are kept. One showing the fish in its specially made jar. And a close-up of the label that the visitors see. I hope one day you can come and see it. Best wishes for 2011 Oliver and heres the pics he sent me i had to pop this 1 in as well ;d olly

Interesting to see - and it must be strange for you to see it again, Olly.
Did the Natural History museum ever tell you anything about how old it was? I'm sure they must have at least taken a scale for that purpose when preserving it.
Your bass is in exotic company: the fish second-to-right of it is a coleocanth (the "fossil fish" that was thought to be extinct until the late 1930s). I think the long-bodied fish is next to it with the mackerel stripes is a barracuda of some kind.
