since my original post 8 months ago, i have picked up a 13'4 afaw match, love it. i'm not a big caster but regularly hit 160m on grass with it. i'm looking forward to trying out the afaw tournament match and tournament rock, both capable of 250+yrds, but apparently both still retaining excellent bite detection etc. Hugh further to the above post, i've since hit 192m on 150g at steyning using a 6500 tourny reel, the awb still casts further with 125 on a 550 mag elite though!

Hugh, Anyone at Steyning tried the New Match or Rock Rods on the Field or beach yet as wondering how they perform, rather hear some unbiased reports than trust what the Mags say!!.

The Fuji BHNG ring wont be round for much longer as they are being phased out. 2 rod builders Stan M(alba-rods) & Phil Hyde(south west tackle devs) have confirmed this on another site, thats why your seeing some of the rods now being built with Alconites(bmnag),Zircons or Sic,s..

Sorry I was talking about the cheap shite they put on the six and bait etc Still think Swift Zirconium carbides are the best you can get.

I read paul fenechs sea dangler article in Dec on both and he raved about em which is good from AFAW point of view as there lower end 6 and maggot didnt fair too well. mind you he does finish with................... "Most modern rods come with a casting ratio,I reckin these 2 should come with a horsepower label and in the wrong hands will be virtually useless"....(me)...he does say that novices will struggle to get the best performance from em but sez if powerful rods are your thing get ya cashola out....phew saved me some money then....gimme the low down when you get em Hugh. lol Gazza, on a serious note - the reviews in Sea Angler are an injustice to normal anglers like you and me when it comes to parting with hard earned wonga. Lets not forget that at the end of the day, the people who write in these magazines are journalists - not the most scrupulous of professions is it? Money talks. That's the language of these people, being honest and frank doesn't come into it. The best advice I can give is only buy gear that you have been fortunate enough to try/borrow first from a mate and only then will you really know As for Alan Yates, he's a bloody good angler (when it comes to catching multiple dabs, codling and other tiddlers). I won't stoop down as a low as bashing someone because of the way they look, and I'm sure he could teach me a thing or two about match fishing with queer little hooks and baits/tiddler bashing but I take his tackle reviews with a mountain of salt ;D
