Had planned a weekend afloat with my mate Lozz and overslept on the saturday requiring a last minute change of plans.
Plan "B" was Lulworth Banks in search of rays.
Weather was cracking,we were looking forward to a good long paddle to the mark
launched from the Cove and the tide helped us along to our destination,a bank at the SW extreme of the banks
Anchored up within sight of the odd private boat and began fishing.
Was getting bites pretty soon.Had my first doggie of the year :win:
The little Houdini decided that he would release himself ;D
managed a Spider Crab :bash:
neither of us got our ray but it was a cracking day at somewhere that will inevitably produce the goods at some stage
Back at Lulworth we decided to go ahead with our Skerries plans and were soon packed up and making our way with a few refreshment breaks and a brief visit to Seatown for a reccy en route to Start Point.
We arrived approx 10pm and there were a few guys fishing from the beach,it was a bit breezy
We were both tired after a long day.
The next morning the wind had died just a little but not much and we were in two minds whether to fish the Skerries or Salcombe estuary. After a visit to the local shop for the days supplies we decided to go for the Skerries.
Arrived back at the launch site to find a group of SINK kayakers :ahhh:
It was interesting seeing how they rig up for a day on the water
a lot of stretching going on before launch to prepare them for a vigorous days paddling
Then they were ready for the "off"
(this guy seemed the most experienced )
pure entertainment, thanks guys whoever you were.
Eventually me and Lozz picked ourselves up off the floor
and got ourselves rigged up and ready to go
paddled for some time till we were in a suitable position to begin our drifts with a few private boats out there too.
At first we drifted with anchors down with the grapnels still folded in to slow the drift but as the tide eased off it was no longer neccessary.
We had been fishing for a few hours before I had a good bite resulting in a fat, healthy but quite small Plaice that I returned
Sadly that was to be that,,,,,,,,never caught his big brother :bash:
We ended the day with a paddle up to the lighthouse at Start Point
passing a diveboat on the way
a great weekend :sunny:
