I have been using 12mm 3-strand polyester rope on my 15ft boat and never had a problem, great suff, just a tad expensive

No its fine, change it annually, but not had any problems the 12mm being thicker is easier to handle.

You need at least 10mm to be easy to handle, although it will be stonger than needed. Polypropylene is cheap but the disadvantage it it floats, kinks/tangles easily and is slippery so it has a tendency for knots to come undone. Polyester is more expensive but sinks and is a much better rope for anchoring. Nylon is more expensive still but is the best rope as it stretches so the movement of the boat does not jerk the anchor out.

Nick i bought my anchor rope off a guy near me on ebay.
Used him before and he's cheap as chips. sometimes takes a while to get it but superb price. I had 14mm nylon 80m of it for £60 i was quoted from £120 - £200 everywhere else.
