i think you will be better of with the bigger 60hp with that boat. i had one a while ago with a 50hp and with a couple of people and all the kit that whent with us it was a matter of full belt all the time to keep any speed. i would have liked a 70 at the time.

How much do you want to spend?
i'd stick a 115hp on the back. That would be fun. might not get home but would at least be fun.

Iv a 17ft Wilson with the Flybridge & the 6ft cabin, (don't take your bird with you when you go to buy a boat!) Its powered by a 60HP Johnson fourstroke & with all my kit plus 3 adults & a child on board it will do 30mph. I know the Johnson 60 is actually a detuned 70 but a fourstroke 60HP lump should be fine. Whatever you decide my advice is do not go higher than 70HP as you'll overpower the boat which is not a great idea. Hope that's of help.

digidy i think i better tell you incase you havent heard. we had a mariner 60hp four stroke it was a 2003 brought it new and it done around 100hrs. must say it was a great engine and sooooo good on the fuel....BUT... mariners and mercs have a problem with a small rubber o ring on the pipe that comes up from the water pump . it swells up and restricts the water flow causing the motor to over heat. we had this prob and it cost nearly £360 to repair. lots of people have had or are getting this problem. it can kick in on them around 4years old. think it happens on 50-90hp lumps. we now run a yam. good luck in your engine hunt.

ah right, thats a useful bit of info, i no this one has had a upgrade kit on it converting the water pipe from a copper pipe to a stainless steel pipe, would that have anything to do with it?
