Set off from home on Friday at 8pm for the first of my annual Tope trips to Wales, only decided I was going at midday whilst at work.
Arrived shortly after midnight and Lozz was still awake at the estuary. We had a quick chat and got our heads down after the long drive.
Woke up around 7am to a bit of an offshore breeze.Readied ourselves for launch and made our way down the river among the local wildlife.
There was just enough water left in the ebbing river to make our exit through the rapids
There was a little surf
Paddled out to our chosen marks and anchored.First fish to the yak was doggie
Followed closely by loads more :bash:
Not a Tope in sight, but that's fishing :dunce:
Tried another mark a couple of miles up towards Barmouth where I'd had success before also to no avail.
It got a bit blustery in the afternoon and the wind put a noticeable chill in the air.
Best part of the day was meeting old mates that I'd not seen for around a year
After a meal and a pint in the pub the long drive and lack of sleep were catching up on me and it was early to bed with the plan of an early morning launch to allow an easy river exit.
Awoke at 6am and although there was still a bit of wind you could tell it was going to be a better day already
Rigged up and launched to a slightly different kind of wildlife from yesterday
Caught the ebb at the right stage again for a fairly easy exit
Today I tried a different mark closer to the launch point than yesterday.
Unfortunately it turned out to be a kennel too :'(I had bleedin loads of them :ahhh:
It was lovely laid there in the sun, could feel my face starting to burn :sunny: I was dozing off ;D
All of a sudden the ratchet was clicking and gave me the shock of my life, then it stopped.Picked up the rod and felt a weight on the end starting to thrash, this felt a lot heavier and when I got it to the yak I saw why
I caught 3 this size including the same one twice.I'd caught him earlier on the scratching rig and the hook had broken in half when I tried to lift him on the yak at the first capture(I was able to remove what was left of the hook on the second capture).
Again no Tope despite being targetted by 8 yakfishermen and this fellow
Headed back to shore early afternoon with the drive home to contend with.
Although no Tope were caught it was a great way to spend a weekend among old and new friends :catch:
