Hi
Thought I would try my hand at using lures for bass and picked up a Shimano Beastmaster and a Baitrunner 8000 off ebay.
The reel is loaded with 14lbs mono, but I have managed to find 2 spare spools which I want to load with braid.
Do you guys load backing on first or go straight on with the braid.
On my multipliers I always load with backing first.

Stick the braid on first then the backing to bring it up to the level you want. Then wind off and back on so that the braid is on top. If the spools are not the same size then you'll need another one to get the braid the right way round. Don't fill the spool to full to help prevent wind knots.

This is spot on I use as much el cheapo mono backer as necessary to get the full length of braid about 2-3mm shy of the spool lip. I can't stress enough how important it is you don't fill the spool right up, you will regret it!! ;D

i have used braid for years both on fixed spools for carp fishing and on multiplyers for boat sea fishing .When using braid for carp fishing on big pitt reels we splash fresh water from the lake on the first cast this is because braid when dry can throw a coil which can either catch a rod ring or form an unbelievable wind knot ....its to expensive to ruin .The wetting stops this happening. Now i do not suggest spashing salt water on your reel if using braid from the beach on a fixed spool .Take a squeezy bottle of water and soak the spool in fresh water ...you wont regret this .I do not use braid on multiplyers from the beach i just cannot get on with it .
