Pout Use a hook that is the right size for the sandeel, that's about it really.

Depends Where You Fish Realy Mate Down The Back Of The Island Mainly Rays And Bass I Use Clipped Down Pennal Rig:D 2 Hooks 1st Hook Go Half Way Down The Body Of The Sandeel Then Straight Out Threw The Tail 2nd Hook Go Threw The Mouth Then Back Out Half Way Down Then Tighten Up Then Secure With Bait Elastic Make Sure You Do Not Pull The Elastic To Tight Because It Will Tear The Sandeel And It Will Flake When You Are Casting Hope This Will Help You Mate Daz

cutting the tail off will help to stop it spinning and cutting the head off behind the eye will let the blood flow out nicely to add atraction. have a look at this www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkMVAVx1tgQ

its an execelent bate for bass and rays and you can also spin with it if for pollack, bass and scad if you have bate elastic.
cut the head and tail of and thread it throgh just like a worm ,and if you need but elastic on it.

Great bass. pollack and ray bait (and turbot if your lucky). I used to get given the dead ones at the end of the day by a local bass boat, nice daily supply to go in the freezer that was, happy days. Nailed lots of bass out of yarmouth harbour with them when i lived there. Was great, didnt even have to pack my gear down.

Never caught a flounder on sandeel, but was gutting one once caught from Bembridge harbour and it had about 3 halves in it... they were all clean cut, suggesting it had hoovered up some old bait thrown in ;D

It is possible to collect them yourself on some beachs . You need to be VERY careful though as they share the sands with Weever fish and you could end up with a nasty sting . Water as hot as you can take without scolding yourself (or tea/coffee but not beer, never waste beer no matter how warm) will neutralise the poison but it still hurts like hell. We were on Pentewan Sands beach in Cornwall and at dead low tide and night time the eels were just under the surface. By dragging your boot through the sand you'd get two or three small eels a go. Stick them on the hook live and they are a great bait. Caught a Bass about 4+ (ish) on my trusty carp rod 30 yards out with a very light (< 1 oz) bomb to this technique. Also caught shedloads of doggies too, more than on the macky/squid baits next to it.

live sandeel is deadly for bass. it is also good on a float for mackies and good on the bottom for rays and bass. thats the three main speicies.but there are many other species you can get on them
