Bit late but better than never
Launched from hamle quay about 1PM
Stopped off en-route at the rocks to find a few crabs. After i had half a dozen i started paddling against the tide round to hill head. Halfway there and i could see the gulls working a little further out. only problem was i didn't have any mackeral feathers but determined to get a mackeral, I ripped a peice off the wrapper of my cadburys chocolate and wraaped it round a 2/0 hook with bait elastic chucked it over the back and paddled through the shoal. After a few mins with nothing i started to lose faith in my bodge job mackeral lure, till inally a few mins later the rod rattled and i reeld in my first ever mackie from the yak
Just goes to show you can catch a mackeral on just about anything So after that paddled onwards to hil head. Got to my mark and could see a raider a couple of hundred yards away....so paddled up and had a chat with mike in his new toy(lovely boat btw) Back to the mark and dropped the anchor
Dropped a peeler bait down and within a couple of minutes had a nice bite and was straight into a smut. after a good little scrap i brought in my first ever smouthound from the yak
only about 4/5lb but still good fun. baited back up in hope of more but my baits were just getting covered in weed. After a couple of hours catching weed i left and paddled back to the hamle against the tide again
paddled about ten miles over ground but oviously more through water . certainly felt it the day after
