Took the boat out on my own Friday morning & had a mare launching. Put two 5 kilo anchors out bow & stern to hold the boat in the shallows while i took the trailer back to its spot. On reflection i should have payed out more rope on the bow. When i arrived back the boat was floating off! I think a bow wave from a large boat had tripped both anchors & sent my boat drifting into the run. Weighing up the situation i stripped to my boxers & swam after it. Now i know this is not something a lot of people would recommend, & id be one of them if the water temp was much lower, the current run was stronger, or you were not a strong swimmer. Plus you have to be able to get onto the boat once you reach it which is not an easy feat unless you have steps. I used the anti-vent plate on the outboard as a step. Once aboard i re anchored only to realise my keys were in my trouser pocket on the shore! Fortunately a good samaritan with a tender rowed them out to me. To say i felt a berk would about sum it up. I now have a long piece of rope from boat to shore to act as a back up should the unfortunate happen again, but it was a reminder of how easy things can go wrong.

Its good to share these stories though... we all make mistakes with boats and hopefully this will prompt a few of us to think about your incident.
I can't help but shiver at the thought of a swim at this time of the year .... brrrrrrrr :cold:
At least you saved the boat

I've heard of that happening loads of times, hence the reason I've never launched on my own. You done well!

that is a mare in deed good that you were able to catch up and get on board to anchor her back up. and lucky the person was about to row the keys out to you. could have gone worse.
