For some strange reason my Garmin GPSMap298 is not aquiring satellites.
The display shows 12 Sats but it fails to aquire any of them. The boat is sat on its trailer in the boatyard with a totally unobstructed view of the sky.
Any ideas

Was it left for some time since it was ast used, or did you move it from where it was last used? Both will make it take a long time to lock on again. From the Garmin Support site: +++++++++ If you have just finished updating the software in your unit or you have performed a master reset, your unit may take longer than normal to acquire. If your unit has traveled a long distance while turned off or not tracking your travel, it may take a longer period of time to acquire. If your unit has not been used for an extended period of time, it may take a longer period of time to acquire. +++++++++ If none of those apply, try switching off, including the external power to it, and switching on again. That may make it wake up. You may have to do that several times.

Well tried moving the boat. Then switched on and waited 30 min and still nothing. Did Master reset and waited another 45 mins and still nothing. Called Garmin and now the unit is on it's way to service dept for testing

I have a hand held unit and preformed a master reset and it took alot longer than 45min to acquire satellites and give me a position. I also had a mate who "thought" he had problems but he didn't leave his long enough or stationary. So it needs to be stationary, clear view of the sky and quite a bit of Patience.

My SatMap took over an hour to lock on after an upgrade.

Well I could not believe it this morning when TNT brought my Garmin GPSmap298 back.
Garmin had not repaired it, but supplied me a complete new unit.
I cannot rate their customer service highly enough.
