Well after my trip out with Scotty yesterday where I blanked and he caught three hounds, I decided to go out today off Hill Head.
The tides were rubbish and I went out a few hours before low tide which was a pain dragging the yak behind me It was about 8am and really sunny with light breeze.
Anyway, put out one rod and waited 20 mins - nothing.....
So decided to put out my other rod and within 5 minutes I had a stonking bite on my spinning rod which bent in half. ;D
5 seconds afterwards my boat rod behing me (on freespool) jumped into life and screamed off. ...... Scottys words of yesterday " I don't use two rods in case I get two bites!" rang in my ears!!!!
I then had to get my spinning rod one in ASAP...
This was the result ;D
Within seconds I had it straight back into the sea (thanks to barbless hook that I recommend to EVERYONE) and concentrated on the second one which was still stripping line....
This was the baby that greeted me ;D
It went quiet for an hour or so, and two more followed.
The weather by now was getting "choppy" to say the least with massive gusts and constant 6 foot waves. I think that this stirred the water up a lot and then had a lovely 1lb Bass ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D - the greedy bugger ate a whole squid
Anyway - one more smoothy
They were about 8-10lb with the biggun about 11lb ish and all female???
and time to go home as the waves were getting up a bit and with the wind they were slopping over the side too much for my liking! I wondered why I was the only person out there!! haha
So there we are. My first Smoothhound X5 (oh and one lost...) and my first Bass. Not only are they my first ones on a yak but my first ones EVER!!! (being landlocked for too many years!) ;D
