Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone knew of any casting instructors around the portsmouth area? Ive recently changed over from a fixed spool to a multiplier and I need some help. :bash:
Thanx

Theres not a huge difference in technique between casting a multiplier and a fixed spool once you have mastered the basics of how the reel works. The main thing is to get the reel running correctly. What reels have you got? If they are magnetic put a bit of tape round the line and flick the handle to get the spool spinning, then click the reel out of gear so the spool spins freely, adjust your magnetic setting till the spool spins for 6-7 seconds, I find this about right for fishing. When the wind is in your face you can apply a bit more breaking and when its behind you back them off a bit. With a centriufugal system start with the big blocks and go casting in a field or the beach and keep reducing the size of the blocks until your happy that the reel is running quickly enough but without over running. I find that for my 7hts one medium and one small block is about right. Most important thing is to make sure that you lay the line evenly and tightly with no slack spots or loops when you reel in, or you will blow it up every cast as the spool accelerates and slows down during the cast. When it comes to the cast dont try to hard, if you jerk or hit a slack spot in your swing you will blow the reel up just take it easy and it will always go further than trying to break a world record. Oh and never attempt to fish braid on a multiplier, you will have a nightmare.
Hope this helps
Rob

im not sure but I think the C3 has both magnetic and centrifugal brakes in it so I would set it up as a centrifugally braked reel but a bit on the fast side and then use the magnets for fine tuning as per the conditions when you are fishing.
