Tried my first velvet swimmer today  The shell was about 3 1/2" across. Boiled for about 5 minutes and let to cool. As a starter or a snack with bread, I was surprised, it tasted OK each leg you can just squeeze and the meat comes out. the body was just like a miniature brown crab. It wont fill you up but as a tastier very nice. just hoping I will survive the next 24hrs :ahhh:

Had a holiday in Fishguard a couple of weeks ago and the crabbers were catching boxes of Velvet swimmers, by all accounts they go to.....you guessed it.. France...where they use them in soup and stews. They were also taking lorry loads of spiders, never saw an edible.

When i worked on the boats we used to take all the local boats velvets over to lymington to sell for them. They got about 25 quid for one of those orange baskets full. Paid the days fuel for them They all got took off to spain.
