what size anchor will i need for my 16ft boat hoping to fish the solent ( plus how many would i need) also how big a retrieving bouy would i need if i needed to use it??

i would say a 5kg bruce anchor and 300ft of rope and about 10 /12ft of chain that would be fine for solent or sandown bay and that kind of place

Agree with the above, although I have a Delta anchor (plough type) which works well. I would recommend a 50cm diameter buoy, give or take a bit, for the Alderney method on that size rig. You will only need as many anchors as you lose, you only use one at a time. If you trip the anchor properly you won't lose many.

When your ready to go out give me a shout and i'll take you out and show you how to lift the anchor. Then when your happy you can have a few goes on my boat to get the hang of it before you try yourself. If you want to bring one of your cronies with you we could have a days fishing after you've got the hang of it.
