well i final manged to get me hands on a 18' rib(punchered) on trailer with a 2003 yamaha 60hp 4 stroke(would not start for the owner....lol) for a grand :win: :win: :win: so after playing with it for a hour 2nite i got it running ok but it over heated and after a 1/2hour i had the knackered impeller out and on order. apart from that every think looks faily good.even the guages worked , but only time will tell if i got a bargain now. it had been layed up in the yard for 2 years so with a bit of TLC i should be up and running with a more reliable engine that should burn a bit less than my old 42 year old mercury ;D ;D.
my questions are
has any one else got/had one of these engines (model F60AET). as i need a workshop manual and would like to copy some pages so i can do a few bits of maintance,ie cam belt ,setting up carbs ect....
also is the any think to keep an eye on as in common faults???
the local yamaha dealer i spoke to 2day was as unhelpful as he could be. guess hes must be doing well if he can aford to be a twonk and lose the money id have paid for the manual or any of the parts.
also i l will have a 18' rib on trailer for sale once i fix the puncher so if any one is intrested give us a shout, il post some piccys 2morrow
cheers john

John, if you cant get hold of a workshop manul order one from warsash marine. Leave the thermostat out mate, you dont need one. it might be worth you taking off the power head and cleaning out the waterways, if you take it off carefully you might get away with using the gasket again(with a sealing compound) If that doesnt work then you might have to take the head off and clean out the salt, £50 odd quid(i think) for the head gasket but might be worth doing. If she is running abit lumpy dont strip the carbs, they have such tiny airways and jets they have to be sent away and ultrasonically cleaned. They may need re-syncing with vacum gauages though sorry if i'm teaching you to suck eggs mate :blah: and thanks for the fender btw, i need one that big with my driving

to right you need one that size with ya driving...lol.... even ya nan looked like she thought the wooden box was on its way....psml
today she still got hot with stat out so i took a blanking plug out next to the stat housing and the was no water presure there just a light spit. so i dropped the gear box again and put a hose on it and water pissed out so the pump is not producing enough presure, after a measure up its on the worn side, so new housing and stat.....lol but with a hose on the pick up pipe from the engine she does not over heat at all so i recon iv got it sussed now. im sure the will be a surprize tho
spoke with chris at warsash today and he getting the parts sorted and il have them on friday and il try to sweet talk a manual loan, scotty, as for leaving the stat out, it should only ever be done in the short term fix and as a trial and error test.engines need them to maintane a good running temp and increse engine life. also on some newer engines it would compleatly comfuse the ECU and it would make it run like a bag of shite and be thursty as it would think the engine is cold all the time and keep the choke on. id never re-use a head gasket eather m8.thay will not take the presure/compresion for any real lenth of time and you will pay dearly for taking a short cut in the end with such a important gasket.water tracks in the head or block(caused by faulty head gaskets) will cost big money for such a simple and cheap part. dont want you to suck eggs eather but avice like that to some one who has no real experance could cost them a lot of money.
on the plus side iv looked inside the water jacket and the is not signs of salty deposits so things look good for the head in that respect she does run a treat ticks over just nice now iv drained and blown the carbs out, plus got some nice fresh petrol in them. i also blew the tubes up to day and only 1 has a leak.............ok 5 leaks and gos down in about 2 hours.....lol.... but its all cheaply fixed with some glue and some patchs.
bring on the new part.s i feel a blast to cowes coming on b4 i change it over to the mighty blue mist.

sorry mate

Hi John
Can I suggest trying Salt X for clearing and deposits in the engine.
I have used it many times and found it works well.
Don't throw away the diluted mixture keep some in a bottle and you can reuse it again on washing down reels, rods etc.
Good luck on your fix
Dave :catch:

no probs scotty. just go carefull , i know ya boss and he has a good rep and knows what he is doing . he will teach all you need just be patient and learn b4 you advise.
cheers dave. all help welcome, but the water ways are clear anyway, but its worth knowing some of the salt blokage produces might work, and we have not tryed that 1 yet @ work(and your not the 1st to recomend it) so next cooker we get il give it ago. normaly we whip the head off and put acid in the water ways for a few minutes then flush. not ideal but does work, just not to sure its good in the long term.
any way all the bits turnt up today, so full service done, new pump and stat in and hay presto, she is a beauty. had her running today for 1 1/2 hours and no over heat. even in gear. so she is unbolted from the rib and waiting for me to get the old engine off my boat and be fitted. fingers crossed i get a nice quite weekend at work.....................hhhmmm no chance when i want to do somethink...lol

she's fitted to the boat all but the steering as i now found out why the old steering arm was so tight to get out. the tube is bent. how the F**k you bend that tube i dont know, so another little gremlin to sort but other wise all looks top dog.
baz she has a 11 x 15 prop at the moment, so hopfully it will be right but i have my doubts...lol
