on a boat yes mate i dont think it would be advisable on the beach if you got a birdie you would never get it out

depends on what braid and how far you need to cast
i have had 30lb spiderline on one of my back up reels for years without problems. i use it when it gets weedy but never cast it more than about 80 yards because there is no leader on it
