Agreed and the stuff I use (see above) does have good abrasion resistence.

Good advice Adam, I'm always having trouble with my "higher angular momentum"

As Adam says breaking strain is of little imortance really, after all it is nearly impossible to put even 15lb of strain onto a line that is coming from the end of a 13 foot rod. I could go on about fulcrums, leverages, and torque generated by the length of the rod and force applied by your arms on it but I wont bother but trust me 15lb of force multiplied by 13 foot of rod means that you have to pull bloody hard to snap it! Go for a decent quality mono about 0.35mm and you will be fine.

the problems sea strike milo .......needs a good bedding in to become useable :bash:
try a few nice gentle casts with just a plain lead to settle the line down then it should be ok .........

You haven't been undoing the spool tensioner again Milo. When I had a look at it, the spool had about 2 to 3mm of end float.
Like Drew says could be the blocks have flown off. He will sort it out for you

when FW fishing milo I use tween 5 and 10lb reel line for feeder fishing and was taught many years ago to pre stretch the casting section .....eg.....80 yard cast bank to bank over the river Thames in order to take out the new ness and frequent coiling that would happen after I re filled the spool......yes the line would still snap at its given BS ....all being well .....but it seems to behave far better on the spool ....and since starting sea angling I do the same to 15lb stren stamina over a 200yd field (no I dont cast that far ) but stretch it by hand and although it doesnt stop the birdies on my multiplier the new mono lays better on the spool....I agree though that casting heavier guage/BS mono will always lessen distance especially if its poor quality....this al depends of course on the ground you fish as "nics" in any line will always bugger up plan A...

I use Ultima Red Ice 30lb for rock-hopping and occasional shore use on a multiplier and have never had a problem with it despite the occasional bridie. I use the levelwind as I'm not bothered about distance when using this reel/line combination and never bother tuning the reel either, just use my thumb to brake it... So, either your new line is just crap quality or perhaps you didn't load the spool right when you put it on. Heavy line needs much more care when loading than thinner stuff. I'd take it all off, turn it around, and reload it under a fair amount of tension to start with then gradually cast further and further to let it bed in. Failing that buy my reel and line, I've just upgraded
