Thought I'd introduce myself to this excellent forum. Haven't sea-fished for about 8 years now since moving back to London from Beer in Devon. I still actively fish for carp and other coarse fish, and make regular contributions to the Cemex Angling forum. After reading several excellent threads from you guys - I'm starting to feel quite envious, and miss my times after the bass and cod. Before I left Devon - the opportunities for big bass had got to the stage where blanking had almost become the norm due to the commercial boys gill-nettings. My enthusiasm waned because of this. However - I did very well the few years before that when fishing the Devon/Dorset coast, catching several double figure bass from the beach/estuaries (no sea-legs for boat-fishing unfortunately!!), and felt privelaged to be have those experiences before things went pear-shaped. I do miss those dark, windswept nights, at one with all nature could throw at you, not another angler in sight, and a big surf separating me from those great fish. Never had the opportunity to fish IOW/Hampshire, but there's obviously still half-decent areas of the coastline that are still worth making the effort to get out there and have a go. Now living in Ealing, London and would love to get back into the swing of things again after my break. Anyone living in the West London area - feel free to PM me if you fancy meeting up. Goes without saying - all costs will be shared with bait/petrol etc. In the meantime - I shall carry on with my carp fishing and make contributions where I can. Top forum!! Keep it up guys!! Cheers, Alex.

Hi Mooreha, Used to live in Devon meself but moved to Hayling rather than London. Worked in London years ago - never again yer welcome to it. Actually I am very fortunate to have been able to retire early and live on Hayling Island. Fishing was great last year plenty of bass, smoothies, flatties and bream plus the odd dogfish and smut. Not quite so good this year due to the weather but looks like it is now going to shape up and we should have some good evening/night sessions. Give me a shout if you decide to come this way and want some tips.

Gaz, yeah - must be mad coming back up here!!..LOL!! Missed my carp fishing and change of career was needed. Registered mental health nurse these days, but no asking for advice chaps - agony aunt I 'aint!! ;D Need to purchase a couple of good beach rods by the sounds of things (sold up my old stuff years ago), but my spare set of 2.75 TC carp rods/big pit reels will do for now. Drove the ex mad in Devon - tying rigs etc if not fishing!! And the old rig knowledge is still there waiting to wreak havoc with my current partner!!LOL!! Will be more than happy to take you up on the fishing offer if the chance arises, cheers Gaz. Live just off the Uxbridge Road/Northfields area. Feel free to PM/email me.
Eccles, cheers for the reply. Thanks for your generous offer mate. Don't blame you getting outa London. Don't intend to live here too Long - believe me!! Will let you know if I'm ever down your way mate.
Regards,
Alex.

Bought an Abu Suveran 2.75 test carp rod 6 months back & its more than capable for most of my shore stuff it can even handle a 5 oz gripper!. Keep hold of them Alex, I much prefer to use them off the beach if I can. Good luck mate

Cheers Pete. Was thinking that myself. Have used 4 oz for long range before with no problems on my old rods and taken plenty of abuse. Just the job for the beach, except the real rough stuff. Intend to get a pair of decent quality 5-8 oz beachcasters for heavier seas/cod etc. Has to be fixed-spool. Too long in the tooth for multipliers and birdsnests!! Any advice on a decent quality fixed-spool rod appreciated. Up to £100+ budget per rod. Nothing of interest on ebay at present. Want something that does'nt weigh a ton!!
Alex.

I personally like the low diametre 'Century' rods, I noticed that they do a beach rod which is rung for both fixed spools & multipliers, couldnt tell you the price though.
