Seems like ages since I've been able to launch with this wind that doesn't seem to go away till I'm at work Tried Friday night and Saturday morning to launch at some local marks but aborted launch due to the wind Had heard some good reports from the Bristol Channel and as the wind wasn't quite as strong and wouldn't have a great effect on us as we would be fishing close inshore, four of us decided to have a go on Sunday. After a hearty breakfast at the driftwood cafe we readied ourselves for a mid morning launch at the Blue Anchor slipway. The paddle to the mark took all of 15 minutes and we all anchored up no more than 400yards offshore. Local boy Dave was first into a fish (as usual ;D) a small strap no more than 5lbs. It seemed wierd catching Conger in just over 10ft of water in the daylight ;D We all got into the Conger with the best approaching 20lb,not as big as we get round here but more plentiful.A few Thornbacks turned up too with bluey outfishing mackerel by a long way It was great to get out and catch again can't wait for the COD season to start,no doubt I'll see you all out there

Good fishing there mate. There are loads of eels in the channel at the moment, you do get a few bigger ones up there but 20lb is a decent fish. There are cod showing up that way already but you need to be a lot further up the channel than blue anchor, so probably no a wise idea in a yak cos the tides get horrendous anywhere past burnham.

good sesh again richi. there where about 6 yakers off needles monday, even in that swell. paddling in a big swell isn't too bad,it's a bit like a big dipper ride ;D I had a go for a shark in Cornwall (with a mothership) a month or so ago with Simon Everett from BFM,we were about ten miles out and paddled a mile and a half of the return journey before allowing the boat to pick us up and take us back the rest of the journey. It was one of the best fun paddles I have experienced on the salty stuff

That Conger was a bit to close to the old knackersac for my liking.....as for sharking ten miles out to sea, that looked decidedly dodgy.........even with mother watching - guess Im gettin old
