The only knots that can be claimed as being the strongest when tied in mono and fluoro are the "World's Fair Knot" and the "Bimini Knot" both of which are rated at virtually 100% of line strength. The other thing to bear in mind is that the Half-Blood Knot is amazingly easy to tie badly. If it isn't 'clinched home' really tightly it will slide loose. Very true mate! lighty I think you may have forgotten the palomar knot lighty although I confess that out of laziness I only use it when there are smuts around. I also agree the comment about the half blood - don't like to admit it but had a hook come off only the other day. I usually "tuck" mine which helps a lot so why that hook came off I don't know, maybe I will practice a bit and do palomars more regularly.

Thats what I do when my knots come untied!

Any knot will come undone if not tied correctly.

How on earth could the Palomar get forgotten?lol.... but the question on everybody's lips is; have smuts a preference for a particular Knot???lol
If you use a blood knot then you must pull it very tightly and of course leave a long enough tag end to be able to do this other wise on tightening the tag can pull through until it locks in, which it can't when its tucked, perhaps this is what happened when you lost your hook, the tag pulled through
