Todays plan was to try a couple of wrecks off Chesil Beach.
Arrived at Hive Beach a little later than planned and rigged up ready for launch.Had the co-ords written on a piece of paper ready to create the marks on the gps and like a numpty had left the ff/gps combi at home :dunce:
It was a lot calmer than the last time I launched here
Decided as I know the area reasonably well and wasn't planning on venturing too far offshore to go ahead with the launch without gps and to try to find either a dive boat or a charter and in turn a wreck or feature.
Got myself launched and made good speed eastwards with the help of the current.Chesil was as is usual for this time of year busy with shore anglers with the largest contingent being at West Bexington.
I found a bouy just East of West Bexi and decided to hook up for a while,,,,
I was fishing with double squid on one rod and either squid heads or mackerel strip on the other,it was busy ,unfortunately with the good old doggies >:(double hook ups, big, small, dark, light you name it!
I had seen a commercial fishing boat dropping nets nearby and they came over to tell me I was not on a pot bouy but on their net bouy!!!!! they were quite nice about it though and asked how my fishing was going :catch:
Unhooked from their bouy and began drifting Eastwards and quickly feathered up a dozen mackerel.Decided to bait the feathers and drop them to the bottom hoping for a gurnard or bream.
After about a further mile or so hooked a Gurnard aka Nemo
The commercial fishing boat that I saw earlier had laid nets sporadically from West Bexington right down to Abbotsbury aprroximately a mile offshore---no comment
Eventually came upon a few charters and decided to anchor up nearby
Fishing started similar with dogs and macks then at slack water got a really decent bite followed by a fight to the surface with something that definately wasn't a doggie
A nice Bream for tea. :chef: Caught a few more of these but kept only the one
As the tide changed direction the chop picked up a little which just added to the enjoyment of the paddle back.
Arrived back at Hive Beach just before 5pm and it was hard work dragging the yak up the beach,,,on arrival at home checked my trip on google earth from landmarks and found I'd done a good 16 miles,,no wonder I was tired
