I fish Rocks and snaggy ground alot, and you do need to fish these two types of Ground differently.
When I go rock fishing I fish with the intention of getting snagged, this then gives me a tight line to my rod tip,and if not snagged then I'll wind in till I am.
My terminal rig is designed to keep the hook snood up of the bottom as this is the major cause of getting snagged (not the weight)
If I fish say big rocks then my link to my weight may be up to Six Feet long with a short snood above,this hopefully keeps my hook off the rocks, of course smaller rocks use a shorter weight link
The weight is attached to the link via a cheap paper clip, I say cheap because the more expensive clips are usually stiffer wire, you have to open the clip up and bend it accordingly threw the lead eye and weight link. I have learnt over the years how to bend it so that it is strong enough to cast a reasonable distance, if you are fishing in close then it does not have to be such a strong bend, as you do not need to put as much effort into the cast.
If the weight does get caught then a good pull will straighten the paper clip, so you lose your lead, its the name of the game, the rig is designed to do this, it minimizes your loses as you don't want to keep loseing the lot, leader an all. If fishing rocks then take enough leads for a sesh.
I'll try to explain how to make the rig but we all know how difficult this is gonna be..lol;
On your main reel line or leader slip a bead on then tie to a clip* your snood connects to this clip*
Tie a clip to some heavy line (50/60/70lb) at both ends, make the lengh about a metre.
one clip clips behind the bead on your main line, the other connects to the lead via the paper clip, you'll notice no swivels involved as even they can snag.
If you don't understand this then ask me and I'll put up a pic of the rig. Its a very simple rig to build on the beach and can help cut down your loses. Its similar to a pulley rig but so much better for rough ground (my opinion)
