How do I measure the boat to find the required shaft length for the outboard? Also, if an engine is 20 inches, is this from top to bottom or from transom bracket to prop............. etc.
Thanks

yep , lavy has got it spot on. from inside clamp hook to cavitation plate. the idea is the cav plate should site in line with the bottom of your boat to get a good around proformance and ride

thanks chaps, so I should measure from the top of the transom bracket to the lowest point of the hull? and then get the closest length I can to this (going longer and not shorter if needed).

yes, if you go shorter it will just cavatate and have less drive.
