For the fourth year running I attended the Lowestoft kayak meet organised by my mate who is the Humminbird rep for the U.K.
Left Southampton at 8pm on Thursday and met Simon at South Mimms on the way,we got onto the A12(well Simon did and I eventually joined him ;D)and had a phone call from Lozz who had pulled over in a layby that we had just passed with a brakes problem.Went back to Lozz and after a slow drive to the nearest services and a bottle of brake fluid we continued our onward journey steadily towards Lowestoft. We finally arrived some time after 1am at Lowestoft.
0730 Friday came a knock on the van"bacons in the oven"! Wearily we made our way to Snappers kitchen for tea, bacon butties and fishing discussion.
Afterwards we made our way to the beach and decided"b*gger that"! :ahhh: the wind was much stronger than was forecast and we all decided to head up to the broad. Some to fish and some to paddle(or in my case sail)to the pub for lunch
after lunch,a few beers and a couple of mile paddle back one of the old sea dogs took opportunity to rinse the salt out
Saturday was better, there was still a bit of wind and it was offshore but lighter than Friday.
We launched from Hopton and by the time I launched there were already quite a few yaks on the water
Launched with Lozz, fff and Tratty and we headed a bit further offshore eventually anchoring up in 45ft of water over some uneven ground.
Within about 15 minutes I was into a cod and successfully boated one of around the 5lb mark,,,,coshed and in the net bag, sorted :catch:
shortly after fff came over to say he was heading inshore as he had lost an anchor and I showed him the Cod and then didn't re-connect the mesh bag to the caribiner properly and away went the bag with cod in :-[tw*t :bash:
Lozz and Tratty had disappeared off together but I decided to stay put having had a decent fish already.
After a further hour caught a decent Cod around 7 1/2lbs and it took some pulling up.(I was using 10 1/2 oz leads which were neccesary in the tide but didn't help)
And a while later a smaller one which I returned to get bigger
Returned to shore shortly after, most guys were ashore already or just coming ashore.
Sunday quite a few launched at Hopton
I spent a day trying out the torque(a brand new kayak designed with an electric motor built in),paddling and sailing on the broad.I hadn't fished the broad but our guys had Pike up to 13lbs
The Torque was so stable that I was able to go at full speed sat on top of my coolbox in the seatwell :stoned:
I had a fantastic time, the fishing was great as was the banter
